#GIRLBOSS Book Review

girl-boss

I've been feeling extremely sleepy, lethargic and everything that might come with sleep deprivation. I am writing to you as a crazy insomniac awake at 8 am. Yes, in other words I have yet to fall asleep for the night. The past couple of weeks I have either slept too much or not slept enough. I am really hoping to fix the problem! While I am wide awake I thought I'd take the chance to write up a quick review on #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso.

I wrote up a list of things I wanted to do this fall, which you can find here. On the list I set a goal to read 5 books this fall. The first book I read was #GIRLBOSS. #GIRLBOSS is the story of Sophia Amoruso, her background and how she started the now very successful clothing company Nasty Gal.

I had pretty high expectations for this book, probably due to all the hype. My expectations were not met but I do think Sophia's story is motivating. It shows that no matter who you were or what you have done you can be successful. Passion, drive and hard work are all key.

For some reason I felt the flow of the book to be unorganized. I listened to the audio version of the book and I would recommend just reading the book. I do think listening to the book may have contributed to the feeling of disorganization within the story. That being said, Sophia's voice and personality really came out in her writing. I appreciated that her writing was laid back rather than formal. It was like she was just talking to you. No bullshit.

I think Sophia Amoruso's success is something to motivate. Her story promotes my own belief that when you do something full forced and when you go after something that makes you feel passionate, you can only be successful.  I think that Sophia is a great example of how one can be successful if you find what makes you happy and you just do it! Success like hers take a lot of hard work, but wouldn't it be worth it knowing you did it, you created it and it was all fueled by passion?  “A #GIRLBOSS is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.” -Sophia Amoruso

My recommendation? It's an awesome read that will pump you up! There are a lot of key lessons in this book. Hopefully it'll make you realize that you shouldn't limit yourself based on who you have been or what you have done. Especially for the Entrepreneurs out there, this one's for you!
