This book kept popping up in my feed with good reviews and I liked that this was a Latine/x story written by a Latina author. I wasn’t too sure what I was getting into beforehand, to be honest.

Romance is just fun sometimes; that’s really what I would say about this story-it’s fun and It’s hot.

(read: get your Tinder dates queued up).

It is not exactly like “Jane the Virgin” or “Ugly Betty” in terms of storyline like I’ve seen mentioned in some reviews. However, the two main characters, Jasmine and Ashton, are the actors of a telenovela being reimagined for mainstream tv. So, it has a similar vibe in that sense.

There is Spanish written in and most without follow-up translation in English, and I’m here for it! Non-Spanish readers will catch on from the context so no worries there! I really connected with Jasmine in that she is not fluent in Spanish but her Spanish accent is on point so it throws people off.

I will mention that I personally wasn’t a fan of the secret son situation, to be honest, but not going into detail because I don’t want to include spoilers. It just felt unrealistic and a little over the top. That could have very well been the whole point though, considering the telenovela theme.

Besides that…

I recommend reading it!! I mean, I binged it sooo…
I loved the two main characters and I found the romance between them was written really well. Daria included both of their inner thoughts, so the reader has insight into what they are both thinking. There is a slow build-up (in a very good way) to them getting together. The filming and their acting on the tv show were so unique and a great part of the story.

And now, I really just want to know what you think. Have you read this book or do you want to read it?
